You can test this by checking the Task Manager. When the schedule task triggers a new Excel process should run the back ground. If you don't see this process then it has not started.
 
It may be because the association between .xls files and Excel is not working
 
Try appending the Excel.exe path to the Scheduled Task > Action > Program/.script: field before the AutoUpload.xls path. Separate the two paths with a space.
