ODBClink opens but doesn't start

Troubleshooting \ Troubleshooting Start-Up Problems \ ODBClink opens but doesn't start

Overview

If ODBClink opens but doesn't start, read the following guides.

Enabling Macros

When running ODBClink the first time, you may need to enable macros. See Enabling Macros in Microsoft Excel for more information.

Adding a trusted location in Microsoft Excel

Adding a trusted location to Microsoft Excel should ensure that ODBClink starts correctly each and every time. For more information, see Adding a Trusted Location in Microsoft Excel.

ODBClink started in protected view

On some machines, ODBClink may start in protected view. See ODBClink started in protected view for more information.

ODBCLink Helper files are blocked by Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows places enhanced security restriction on files downloaded from the internet by flagging them with a Mark of the Web flag (MotW). This may block some files from being accessed by ODBClink, hampering the normal startup of the software. Refer to Unblocking and removing Mark of the Web flag from ODBClink component Excel files for more information and steps to unblock a file.

Antivirus and Windows Defender Application

Antivirus softwares and Windows Defender policies installed by your IT Admin in accordance with the security policies of your organisation may quarantine and remove component files required for normal functioning of the software. See Restoring and Whitelisting ODBClink System folders and component files to add exceptions and avoid getting blocked while startup.

Unreadble contents error when starting ODBClink

If you receive an unreadable contents error when starting ODBClink, see Unreadable contents error when starting ODBClink.

Repair Microsoft Office

Repairing Microsoft Office may resolve many unusual errors. See Repair office and ensure that all components of Office are installed for more formation.

ODBClink doesn't start in Excel 2016

We've identified an issue where macros are enabled, trusted locations exist yet the software doesn't start. This doesn't affect all versions of Excel and only seem to occur on specific machines. For this type see Removing a trusted location in Microsoft Excel and Disabling Trusted Documents in Microsoft Excel.
